Whether your interests are visiting archaeological sites, old military fortifications, mosques, churches, museums or galleries to see works of art or to attend the live arts, the area around the apartment has much to offer. Whilst there are relics going back to 500 BC, much of what is to be seen reflects the interaction of the distinctive cultures which have dominated this region - the Celts, the Romans, the Visigoths, the Moors for 800 years and the Christians. The main cultural centre is Málaga although there is plenty of interest in other nearby places such as Fuengirola, Mijas, Benelmádena, Ronda, Marbella and Antiquerra. To attempt on this web site to describe all that is available could not do justice, so what follows is by way of a few examples.
In Málaga, the municipal theatre, Miguel de Cervantes, is home to the Symphony Orchestra of Málaga during its concert season and also offers drama, operas and traditional Spanish operettas. Málaga is also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso where in the Fundacion Picasso one can see a permanent as well as visiting exhibitions. There are also many interesting buildings such as the Alcazaba, Gibralfaro, the Roman Theatre, the Cathedral and the Sagrario church.
The Salón Varietés in Fuengirola stages drama productions in English and other languages.
Ronda also has a municipal theatre, the Vicente Espinel together with a host of interesting sites, the Almocábar door, the Mondragón Palace, the Casa Gigante, the Roman Theatre of Acipino, the Santa Mariá la Mayor Church, the Santo Domingo el Puente Nuevo Convent, the Arabic Baths etc.. It also boasts the oldest, (or second oldest?) bullring in Spain.
For those who would like to make longer excursions, the cultural riches of Cordoba (230 km), Granada (178 km) and Seville (200 km) are all within driving distance of the apartment.
In the apartment there is a folder which lists all the major attractions in the area, art galleries, museums. etc., with locations, details of exhibits and times of opening.
