The Costa del Sol and in particular the area around Mijas is renowned for its sports and recreational facilities.
There are many tennis clubs in the area and they all welcome visitors, subject to other events taking place. They all have excellent facilities and offer the highest level of professional coaching, tournaments and regular mix ins.
The
Lew Hoad Campo de Tenis y Padel is
immediately adjacent to the
Village, three minutes walk away from the apartment and is often described as
the most beautiful in the world. Over the last few years, under new management, the
club has undergone a major refurbishment programme and now offers
unrivalled facilities. It has new Plexi- Cushion surfaces to all 7 courts
(all floodlit), 6 paddle tennis courts with artificial grass (all floodlit), a new restaurant,
a very well equipped gym, hairdressing, beauty and physiotherapy salons, a salt
water swimming pool, Yoga and Pilates sessions weekly, a
well stocked boutique with clothing and equipment etc.
Algarrobo Tennis Club is less than a five minute car drive away. Just ten minutes away is the Club del Sol which has undergone extensive refurbishment and offers 9 brand new clay and 3 Plexi-Cushion courts and holds an excellent Sunday morning mix-in.
The
area is often called the Costa del Golf for a very good reason. Within
ten to twenty minutes drive there are six championship golf courses Miraflores,
La Cala Golf, Mijas Golf, Alhaurín Golf, Golf Torrequebrada and Lauro
Golf. When you have mastered these, there are more than a dozen courses thirty to forty
minutes drive away. All welcome visitors. Details of all the courses in the
area can be found at
Malaga Golf Courses
Andalucía
is world famous for its equestrian culture and horses are said to be a way of
life on the Costa del Sol. There are, therefore, many stables and farms
providing horses for hire, specialised treks or riding lessons. The terrain
in the area provides stunning riding itineraries for both experienced and novice
riders.
Hot air
ballooning, climbing, trekking, canoeing, and much much more are available
in the area around the apartment.
Fuengirola
is renowned for its five miles of golden sandy beaches. These are wide
open beaches with many bars, cafes and restaurants each having its own area
with sun beds and parasols. There are also many community beaches with play areas for
children and with life guards
on patrol. For those who wish for something different there are quiet rocky coves or
places authorised for sun bathing without clothes. As well as sunbathing and swimming, there are
facilities for sailing, windsurfing, parasailing, fishing and scuba
diving. Basically, if it can be done in, on or under the water, it can be
done in the waters around Fuengirola!
There
are several aquaparks in the area, the nearest being
Mijas-Costa
Aquapark on the Fuengirola ring road. Also nearby is the
Aquapark
Torremolinos which is reputed to be the largest aquapark in Europe.
Rides here include the hair-raising kamikaze twister and near vertical slides
together with a tiny tots area and waves swimming pool.
The
Tivoli World Show and Amusement Park at Arroyo de la Miel - Benalmádena
is the biggest amusement park on the Coast and offers attractions, spectacular
shows, musicals, a variety of restaurants and many other options to entertain all the family. With more than
40 rides, including a new 80 feet free fall tower, child tower 27 feet, 60 feet
big wheel and grasshopper, musical shows for all ages, restaurants for all
tastes, you'll have special day with your family and friends.
Sea Life
at Benaládena Port - Málaga, the 'Danger in the Reefs' exhibition
allows you to experience the ocean's most deadly creatures ranging from the Blue
Ring Octopus, capable of killing a person in 20 seconds, to the comical Puffer
Fish which is only fatal if you are foolish enough to eat it!
Fuengirola Zoo in the town centre
is well worth a visit with its
simulated rainforest and a natural environment for its good
representation of fauna. In the
Crocodile Park in Torremolinos you can come face to face with these
prehistoric monsters which have miraculously survived 200 million years of
evolution.
A 45
minutes drive away towards Estapono is the Selwo Safari Park which
provides a unique and fantastic experience for the whole family. The park covers
500 hectares and is the largest Nature Park in Europe with 2,500 animals.
Here you see the animals
essentially in a natural environment rather than in cages. The park is divided
into five sections, the Gateway to Nature, Birds Canyon, Central Village, Route
of the Savannah and Route of the Valleys. Apart from the walking sections,
open lorries are provided to take visitors from one section of the park to the
other and allow an open view of the animals. There are seven bars and
restaurants which offer everything from snacks to three course meals.
